This summer has proved to have a lot of down time for me since I have been unable to find anyone who wants to hire me for just the summer. So with my new found down time I have been reading. Some of what I am reading I have read
before, like the Harry Potter series but I am starting some new ones in between. This summer, I have already read The Eldest in the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini, and the first three Harry Potters (The Sorcerer's Stone, The Chamber of Secrets, and The Prisoner of Azkaban) by JK Rowling. Right now I am reading three books at once: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by JK Rowling, Roverandom by JRR Tolkien, and Breakfast of Champions by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. As I finish these I hope to re-read the rest of the Harry Potters (The Order of the Phoenix, The Half-Blood Prince, and The Deathly Hallows), Stardust and Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman, and The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien. The last book on my list is American Gods by Neil Gaiman but I haven't found a copy of that yet so it will have to wait. Unfortunately, between all these books I still have to read my text book and do homework.I just wanted to give a little thank you to the casher at Ralph's today. Here is my story: I went to the library today to pick up a book I had ordered. As I was driving back the heat of the day was really getting to me and as I passed the Ralph's grocery store I decided I would stop and get some ice cream. I had my mind fixed on getting the Haagen-Dazs mango sorbet because it is refreshing and delicious. And to my delight they had it, but right next to it there was a special green tea flavor and I love green tea ice cream. Now I had a big dilemma, especially because they were marked 2 for $6 if I had a member card, but I don't. I decided I didn't care and I would just pay full price for both of them. I went to a cashier who didn't have a line and look particularly bored, probably regretting the fact he had to work this tedious job all summer. He rang me up and asked for my membership card and I said I didn't have one. Without saying a word he gave me the discount and my change, putting a big smile on my face. So thank you cashier man, you made my day!
I designed this yesterday in class, drew it in the afternoon, and finished during Lost (actually, during the commercials between Lost). I think I will leave it with just the sharp lines, but again there is a small chance that there will be a tint added to it in the fall, but for now it is complete. And just so you know: it is all one coil which makes me happy.
Sunday was the first really beautiful day of Mayterm and we decided that it would be a sin to stay inside to do our homework so we drove around to find some lovely patch of earth to relax in. We found a large beautiful field with some really tall grass which hide us as we laid down on our blankets. We did get a little work done, but napping was much nicer. I did get a little pink on my shoulders since they haven't seen the sun in months, but that was nothing compared to my red-head friend, she's crispy now.
I also finished this, my third interlacing. I wasn't sure about keeping it this split pea green, but the more I worked with is I realized that I really liked it. I did decided to keep it more simple and left out any shading, giving the definition in the intersections by adding a pencil out line. The very last layer was just an oil green glaze that I just put around the boarder to make it stand out.
These two got the backgrounds finished with a layer of oil paint. I like the way they turned out because I decided to not make a solid color backgrounds but ones that have a slight variation. The yellow one starts almost white in the center and then fades out to bright yellow on the edges. The orange one starts in the center with a very red-orange and fades to having a very yellow-orange on the edges. Now all I have to go over the coils with an oil layer and these will be done too. But I still need two more for the whole project.
You could have used Dawns phone number that's what i do at Ralph's. Works every time! hehe! read more
